Review & Specification:
The Epson DFX-8500 dot matrix printer provides high-speed impact printing and efficient continuous paper handling for demanding print jobs. This printer is suitable for printing databases, inventory reports, accounting files, program listings and large-volume mailing labels.
This model differs in performance and features from its kin, the DFX-8000. The DFX-8500 is faster, handles more multipart forms, and includes eight built-in bar code fonts. It has a built-in slot for Type B interface cards for network printing. Designed and engineered for demanding work environments, the 9-pin Epson DFX-8500 prints up to 1120cps at high draft speed, 840cps at draft, and 210cps for near letter quality print speed. It offers eight bar code fonts for precise automatic label production, and a set of Epson resident fonts and character sets to accommodate different print requirements. Bit image resolution is 60-240 horizontal dpi by 72-216 dpi. The DFX-8500 takes advantage of Epson's proven paper handling technology with adjustable dual push tractors/paper paths that continuously feed paper at 26.5 ms per line. It makes automatic paper thickness adjustments for multi-part forms (up to seven), and prints on continuous paper and labels up to 16 inches wide. A built-in Type B interface slot accepts optional interface boards to connect with Ethernet, Twinax and Coax networks. The DFX-8500 has built-in Epson ESC/P and IBM emulation, and comes with drivers for Windows 3.1x, Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.51/4.0. A Windows 95-only feature is a programmable paper memory to save up to eight settings for recurring print jobs. The DFX-8500 uses parallel and RS-232C serial standard interfaces. Epson offers several options for the DFX-8500, including a perforation cutter to separate pre-perorated forms as they are printed.
